Bus
Manchester's buses are a great way of travelling. There are half a dozen bus companies in the city all competing for passengers, which means tickets are reasonably priced. You can go just about anywhere from as little as 80p, but even better is the fact that some services run throughout the night.
There are a wide variety of services but the Oxford Road Link 147 bus is particularly useful - it runs from Piccadilly Rail Station to the University campus on weekdays between 7.15am and 6.45pm, at ten-minute intervals, stopping at 14 locations from Piccadilly Station to Grafton Street.
Train
Manchesterhas two main train stations, Piccadilly and Victoria, which are both located in the city centre. Piccadilly is just a ten-minute walk from the campus whereas the walk from Victoria is slightly longer so may require a taxi ride.
Tram
Manchester's tram service, the Metrolink, runs every six minutes peak time and every 15 minutes off peak to Altrincham, Eccles and Bury. It also runs a service to the Trafford Centre and The Lowry. The nearest station to the University is St Peter's Square; alight here and then walk down Oxford Street which becomes Oxford Road to reach the campus.
Taxi
Getting hold of a taxi during the day is no problem, but like most big cities it's a little harder late at night. The city's main taxi rank is located at Piccadilly station.
Bike
There are cycle paths running through Manchester and particularly in student areas, but it can get a little scary at peak times with so much traffic on the roads. The road running between Fallowfield, the university and the town centre is largely flat, though, which keeps the strain to a minimum.
